Flight: Greek Islands

A few years ago, I went on quite a magical vacation to the Greek Islands and I cannot wait to take another trip out there with my man some time in the future (the place is romantic AF). Here’s my advice for a trip to these islands of wonder.

Recommended Islands: Greece has thousands of bloody islands so I’d recommend a good island hop, (Crete, Rhodes, Corfu, Naxos, Delos) but the islands that one must absolutely visit are Santorini and Mykonos. However, I’d recommend ending the trip with a bang by venturing to Santorini last because it will be so jaw-droppingly gorgeous that the other stunning beautiful territories will actually pale in comparison.

Where to stay: I have two recommendations that I feel pretty strongly about – In Santorini, the Villa Evgenia is amazing. George, the owner of the villa and suites, is very accommodating and well-connected to people in the city. In Mykonos, I recommend staying at the Mykonos Bay Hotel, but request the room with a view!

What to do (list limited to my two favorite islands):
Hike from Fire to Oia – one beautiful view after the next!
Cliff jump in Amoudi Bay
Take a boat out to the Santorini Volcano
Catch a flick at the Open Air Cinema Kamari
Kick your feet up and relax with a glass of Pinot Grigio at the Santorini Wine Museum
Check out the Byzantine Castle Ruins
Tour the island on a scooter
Go boating in Thirasia, Oia
Visit the Black Sand Village
Go to God’s Garden in Perissa
Eat at Gorge, a traditional taverna in Akrotiri, and get table on a pier that juts out into the flat Aegean sea.

Go on a private shore excursion to Delos
Visit Little Venice – the Windmills here are a good night scene
Unwind at the Elia and Panormos Beaches
Say a little prayer at the Paraportiani Church
Go snorkeling at Paranga Beach
Take a trip to Agios Stefanos Beach
Tour the island on a scooter
Go shopping in Mykonos Town

Bon voyage! To those who make a visit, I wish you the time of your life!

I did Greece over this past New Year’s but didn’t make it to any of the islands. I know, I know…shame on me! This post only confirms what I already knew though–looks like an island-hopping trip to Greece needs to be planned! 🙂
